When your pipes freeze in your Home, Rental Property or Place of Business, the damage can be overwhelming. The water that just continues to run to the lowest floor causing all kinds of damage along the way. The cleanup is a nightmare, and the chance of mold growing goes through the roof. This is a problem no one wants. Some preventive suggestions are as follows:
During winter- Shut off water in unoccupied or unheated drain all interior and exterior water lines and leave faucets open.
Maintain heat at a minimum of 55 degrees.
Ensure all exterior openings like cracks and windows are closed or sealed.
Add signage to the main water valve so it can be easily identified.
Seal Crawl spaces and attics.
Install frost free outdoor faucets.
Ensure pipes are properly insulated especially in outer walls.
