BEYER, LI EMERGENCY POWER DISCUSS NYS’ BACK-UP GENERATOR PROGRAM |
LIGRA President Kevin Beyer and representatives from Long Island, Emergency Power, a private enterprise that specializes in installing back-up generator systems in service stations, spoke to a roomful of LIGRA members earlier this month regarding New York State’s requirements for participating in its back-up generator program.
Beyer emphasized LIGRA members need to apply for the NYSERDA (New York State Energy Research & Development Authority) grant money that will pay up to $13,000 for the generator systems. “While there are millions of dollars available, this is not an unlimited pot of funds. LIGRA members should start the process TODAY to make sure they get the funding they need to make this happen.” A website, nysandyhelp.ny.gov/fuel-ny, has been created to provide information for both gas station owners and motorists identifying which gas stations are required to participate and answer section and information on how to apply for funding. The site will be updated regularly to show which stations are equipped with back-up power capacity. Thanks in no small part to the active engagement of LIGRA President Kevin Beyer in the development of the process, the state will limit the stations required to be wired for a back-up generator to those who sell more than 75,000 gallons of gas a month. The state also arranged for NYERDA grant money to be used to help mitigate the out-of-pocket expenses for station owners who do have to participate in the program. Up to $17 million in Federal Sandy relief funding has been made available for Downstate gas stations. The application is not that complicated but it is involved and will require some time and effort to process. If you need to get your “Government Dun’s Number,” call 1-866-705-5711.
